The program can capture the current desktop, all monitors (in case of multi-monitors configuration), an active window or a freehand region. The screenshots can be annotated by adding arrows, lines, shapes, callouts, highlights, text annotations and you can also add a drop shadow to the entire image. The screen captures can be saved to your PC as PNG, BMP or XBM, XPM, PGM, PBM, PPM files, copied to clipboard, stored to free image hosting services like Imgur, Imageshack...etc. and even uploaded to a website of choice via FTP. Hotshots is a GREAT option for users in need of a free, excellent screen capture tool with features that go a bit beyond the basics. Looks simple but actually comes loaded with lots of features found in paid software like SnagIt. It is probably the most feature rich and the best free TechSmith's SnagIt alternative that will not make you feel broke.
