CamStudio is a reliable desktop screen recorder released as free, Open Source software. CamStudio Lite (full, standalone offline installer) is a virus free, modified version of CamStudio minus advertising adware. Both programs are similar, with identical features but CamStudio Lite comes without malware.

CamStudio is able to record full screen and audio activity on your computer, save and export as MP4 format (h.264/H264) or AVI video files. Also using its built-in SWF Producer can turn those files into lean, mean, bandwidth-friendly streaming Flash videos (SWFs). Add screen captions to your recordings in seconds and with the unique Video Annotation feature you can even personalize videos by including a webcam movie of yourself "picture-in-picture" over your desktop. And if all that wasn't enough, CamStudio also comes with its own Lossless Codec that produces crystal clear results with a much smaller file size compared with other codecs. CamStudio will run fine under Microsoft Windows 10, 8, 8.1, 7 on either a 32-bit or 64-bit operating systems.

About CamStudio 3.0a4 (64-bit): CamStudio 3.0 is a fork of the genuine CamStudio source code that removes the antiquated SWF file format and brings MKV support, a clean installer, Qt UI, and other changes.

CamStudio 3.0 Alpha 4 (unofficial-build) changelog:
fixed not all mouse events coming through (for real now).
fixed crash when using hotkeys to start or pause a recording.

Known issues:
Building on windows 7 broken due to permissive- being incompatible with the win7 sdk.
Installer does not contain visual studio 2017 redistributable.
Mp4 container format does not support camcodec.

CamStudio 3.0.2 Alpha 2023 (official-build)
CamStudio 3 is a completely new codebase for using the "ScreenRecorderLib.dll" which is a .NET library for screen recording in Windows 8 OS and above, using Microsoft Media Foundation for real-time encoding to H.264 MP4 video or PNG image files.

For smooth CamStudio 3 operation, install these files on Windows 8+:
The x86 Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable (directly download it from Microsoft here)
The most current iteration of the .NET framework (direct download from Microsoft's official source)
